EDINBURGH DRIZZLE I was born and brought up in Edinburgh and it is a city I love more than any other. The force of the architecture both in the New Town and the Old Town is staggering. It is a patchwork of shapes—railings, steps, dressed and undressed stone, dormer windows, astragals, pediments, columns, gable ends, narrow closes and wide streets all mixed together. In the sunshine it is quite magical, but this design is based on a dreary winter’s day in Edinburgh: snow in Princes Street Gardens, drizzle in the air, grey leaden skies and slush on the streets. And it is still beautiful! |
